Kula in Hawaiian means “Open Meadows.”  Located in the Upcountry Region of Maui and resting on the slopes of Mount Haleakala, Kula is a rustic town with strong agricultural and ranching traditions.

Kula is know for it organic farms because of its fertile volcanic soil and cool air.  You will also find exotic fruits in abundance here such as persimmons, strawberries, raspberries, jicama to name a few.   Many of the ranches and farms allow visitors to stroll its grounds and sample some of its produce.  A few popular spots are the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, Ulupalakua Ranch which is the second largest cattle ranch on the island, Tedeschi Vineyard Winery, Surfing Goat Dairy Farm, Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery, The Enchanting Floral Gardens of Kula.  Kula is also a major source of cut flowers for the state.  Many properties have beautiful bicoastal views.

Kula divides itself into Upper and Lower Kula.  Lower Kula which lies approximately 1600 to 3600 ft in elevating  is where you will find more residential areas and Upper Kula more ranches and farm lands. The temperature in Kula is consistently cooler than anywhere else on the Island and in the winter temperatures can drop in degrees to the 40s or high 30s at night.
